About Zachary Linowitz

Trial-tested advocacy shaped by experience on both sides of the courtroom.

My path to the courtroom began at NYU Film School, where I learned the power of careful observation, creative thinking, and compelling storytelling. I later graduated from Duke Law School in 2012, where I served as president of the Duke Law ACLU and began developing the sharp, strategic approach to advocacy that has defined my career.

For more than a decade, I served as a frontline public defender in Contra Costa County, representing people and families throughout Richmond, Martinez, Concord, Pittsburg, Antioch, and surrounding communities. I fought relentlessly for my clients—investigating cases, exposing weaknesses in the government’s evidence, challenging misconduct, trying difficult cases, and standing beside people during some of the most consequential moments of their lives.

In 2023, I joined Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price’s administration in Oakland to advance criminal-justice reform and government accountability. I helped establish the office’s Public Accountability Unit and was specially assigned to investigate and prosecute police officers accused of misconduct, unjustified shootings, and other abuses of power.

I have represented people from both sides of the courtroom and conducted nearly 50 jury trials to verdict. That experience has taught me how prosecutors, law-enforcement agencies, government lawyers, and powerful institutions build and defend their cases—and how to challenge them effectively.

Above all, I bring determination, sound judgment, and a deep commitment to justice. When your freedom, rights, reputation, or future are at stake, I will fight for you.
